A colleague went to Bohol!

It's not required, but how could you say NO if a client sent you a round trip ticket to Bohol and requested you to personally deliver their visa instead of them going to Manila? And that the client insists saying that he will be celebrating his birthday and he wants you to be there?

Ms. Pinky Cardillo, one of my colleagues, have just arrived. She was treated by the client to a Bohol country side tour. She went to Panglao Island, to the famous Chocolate Hills and other tourist destinations in Bohol!

Canada Immigration Lawyer

Here's an important announcement from Citizenship and Immigration Canada concerning Canada Immigration Lawyers and Immigration Consultants related to the Special immigration measures in response to the earthquake in Haiti.

Important information for Haitian-Canadians about using immigration consultants

The Government of Canada is concerned that members of the Haitian-Canadian community are being misled that a paid immigration consultant can speed up the arrival of their loved ones from Haiti.

CIC is expediting immigration applications for Haitians with close family members in this country. No immigration consultant can speed up this process.

If you choose to hire a consultant, your application will not be given special attention or processed faster.[Source]

The only representatives who may charge a fee to represent or advise you on immigration and refugee matters with the Government of Canada are:
  • lawyers who are members in good standing of a Canadian provincial or territorial law society

  • Immigration consultants who are members in good standing of the Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants (CSIC), and

  • notaries who are members in good standing of the Chambre des notaires du Québec

  • Canada Immigration Lawyer
It was April 2004 when Citizenship and Immigration Canada issued regulations on immigration representatives. But several years prior to that regulation, Canadian Immigration Consultancy already had Atty John Wiesdorf, a Canada Immigration Lawyer and in good standing with the Canadian Law Society of Upper Canada (Membership No.08162L). That said, Canadian Immigration Consultancy is authorized to represent you.

    Immigration Lawyers
Some of the letters sent by the Visa Office for our clients

The Government of Canada will not deal with non-authorized representatives who charge a fee for their service. Deal with Canada Immigration Lawyers and legitimate consulting firms only! Don't wast your time and money.

Moving to Canada | Canadian Immigration Integration Project

    Thursday, January 21, 2010

Today, we received 36 visa notices from the Canadian Visa Office - Manila. That means 36 families will soon be moving to Canada. These applicants have just filed their application last year. It is now really easier and faster to apply!

Now, their next concern is how to prepare in moving to Canada.

If you have relatives and or friends in Canada who are willing to help you on your initial settlement in Canada, that will be great.

But what if you don't know anybody in Canada?

There are a number of Welcome Centers for Newcomers in Canada that could be of great help to you, but just the same, it is best that you start learning about the following:

    - How to find an apartment in Canada,

    - Where to look for job vacancies,

    - Opening a bank account in Canada,

    - Important things to do upon landing in Canada, etc.

Furthermore, there's Canadian Immigration Integration Project (CIIP) funded by the Government of Canada to help those immigrating to Canada under the Federal Skilled Workers Program in China, India and the Philippines. CIIP offers the following services for free:

    - Information on the Canadian labour market occupations, and the steps required for integration;
    - Advice and guidance to assist in planning successful entry to the Canadian labour market;
    - Practical assistance in identifying and contacting Canadian organizations for further assistance.

For more information about CIIP, click here. Even without relatives or friends in Canada, moving to Canada should not really be a problem.

Always plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the ark.

It was early December last year when Mr. Benjamin Jamorabo brought us S & R New York Style Pizza received the Canadian Permanent Residence Visa for his whole family. If that isn't a wonderful Christmas gift for his family, I don't know what is.

The Jamorabo family with yours truly at CIC Mall of Asia Office

Mr. Jamorabo is a retired bank examiner and will be moving to Canada together with his family early this year. His elder daughter is a graduating nursing student while the younger daughter will be finishing college, too, few years from now. Do you know what that means?

Since great income opportunities await for his daughters, specially his elder daughter, who most likely will be working as a nurse, it only means Mr. Jamorabo will no longer need to work once they landed in Canada!

    Kidding.

It means better quality of life for Mr. Jamorabo and his family. It means a better future for his kids.

It was December 2006 when I first Mr. Jamorabo. He was already 50 years old at that time but still met the pass mark using the points system. Considering his age and the 3-5 years processing during that time, it takes a lot of courage and determination to come up with such a decision.

Using the Simplified Application Process, his application was filed February 2007.

When AINP Family Stream was introduced June 2008, we immediately prepared his application for the program with the end in view of a faster processing.

Imagine their delight when the Ministerial Instruction was issued on November 2008 which identified the 38 High Demand Occupations that eligible for a faster visa processing - 6-12 months only!

After withdrawing his application filed at the Canadian Visa Office in Manila, a new application was filed to Centralized Intake Office (CIO) on Feb 2009 and received the positive assessment a month after. He was classified under Financial Auditors and Accountants.

It was May 2009 when he was able to complete the required documents and submit the same to the Canadian Visa Office in Manila. June 2009, he was required to pay the Right of Permanent Resident Fee (RPRF) and all family members where instructed to undergo medical examination.

After some delays due to some medical concerns in one the family members, their visas were finally issued December 2009!

That's Mr. Jamorabo's plan. A dream come true.

But what about you? Do you also have the courage and determination to make a big decision?

Special immigration measures in response to the earthquake in Haiti

    Sunday, January 17, 2010

The Government of Canada introduced special immigration measures in response to the earthquake in Haiti. Under this program, priority will be given to new and existing sponsorship applications from Canadian citizens. Haitians in Canada temporarily will also be allowed to extend their stay, and if unable to support themselves, will be allowed to apply for a work permit.

Just like the Special Immigration Program for Typhoon Victims in the Philippines, the said special immigration measures do not apply to new and existing Federal Skilled Worker Program.

For more information about special immigration measures in response to the earthquake in Haiti, click here.

Please note that the Canadian Visa Office in Haiti has also been affected by the recent earthquake and services are extremely limited. Given the circumstances on the ground, and the challenges of reduced staff and damage to the visa office, it will take some time to process applications. Citizenship and Immigration Canada will provide information on where people normally served by the office in Port-au-Prince should submit their questions and applications.

Canada vs Singapore | Quality of Life Comparison

    This may help you decide.

Here's an interesting analysis from a Singaporean who is now living in Vancouver.

I still think Singapore is not as worth it compared to Canada, especially after considering the differences that cannot be priced – better quality of life, greenery, fresher air, lower stress, culture, pace of life… etc. After all, while some costs in Canada are higher (i.e. food and shopping needs, professional services), big ticket items are either comparable or cost lower than in Singapore.

    Honesty is the best policy?

    Saturday, January 09, 2010

Here's a very interesting story wherein you may really say that honesty is the best policy.

A permanent resident in Canada was able to get a job offer for two of her relatives in the Philippines. One is a dental assistant and the other is a school principal. A Labor Market opinion for the position, Kitchen Helper, was properly secured from HRSDC and was sent to the Philippines.

The school principal sent the application first and on his application form he indicated that he is working as a school principal, supported with the certification from the school. He got his work permit successfully.

The dental assistant, on the other hand, made it appear that he is working as kitchen helper and submitted a certificate from a local catering services. His application was refused on the basis that the visa officer doubts that the applicant will not respect the condition of his stay in Canada if given a work permit.

Honesty is the best policy, eh?

Canada to provide 5 million doses of H1N1 flu vaccine to Mexico

    Thursday, January 07, 2010

The relationship between Canada and Mexico remains strong even after Canada imposed a visa on Mexican nationals who wish to travel to Canada.

As a proof, Canada announced that it will be providing 5 million doses of H1N1 flu (Swine Flu) vaccine to Mexico.

The Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health, on behalf of the Government of Canada, has announced it will be providing five million doses of H1N1 flu vaccine to Mexico to help bridge that country’s immediate pandemic vaccine requirements. This is not a donation. Mexico will replenish Canada’s H1N1 vaccine supply by March 31, 2010.

"We are privileged that we are in a position to support Mexico’s pandemic response efforts," said Minister Aglukkaq. "The immediate response to Mexico’s request by Canada’s federal, provincial and territorial governments serves as testimony to the special relationship that exists between Canada and Mexico."
