Changes to the BC PNP International Student Streams: What You Need to Know

BCPNP International Student Stream

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) is making significant updates to its International Student Streams. As part of ongoing efforts to attract and retain top talent, the BC PNP is replacing its previous International Graduate (IG) Stream and International Post-Graduate (IPG) Stream with three new, more specialized categories. These changes are designed to streamline the process, focus on specific educational achievements, and better align with the province’s labour market needs.

If you are an international student who recently graduated or are planning to study in British Columbia, this is a critical update to keep on your radar. In this post, we will cover the three new streams for international students, the eligibility criteria, and how these changes could impact your path to permanent residency in British Columbia.

The Three New BC PNP International Student Streams

It was previously announced that starting in January 2025, the BC PNP will replace the International Graduate and International Post-Graduate streams with three new, targeted streams:

  • The Bachelor’s stream will be for recent graduates with bachelor’s degrees from eligible post-secondary institutions. Graduates with an indeterminate full-time job offer can register for this stream

  • The Master’s stream will be for recent graduates with master’s degrees from eligible post-secondary institutions, in any field of study. Graduates with a minimum one-year full-time job offer in a skilled occupation can register for this stream

  • The Doctorate stream will be for graduates and candidates of doctoral level programs from eligible post-secondary institutions. Graduates and PhD candidates can apply directly to this stream

To prepare for the new streams, the last invitations to apply (ITAs) for the International Graduate (IG) stream were issued today, November 26th, 2024. Following the ITA, the IG stream closed. Registrants in the IG pool who did not receive an invitation to apply were removed from the pool.
