SCAM: Town Inn Suites Hotel - Toronto

One of my blog readers sent me this email about an invitation from Town Inn Suites Hotel in Toronto. I'm not sure if there is actually such a hotel in Ontario, but the information that my blog reader sent me is enough to conclude that it is just a scam.

Recently I received invitation letter from Town Inn Suites Hotel in Toronto Canada for visit in Canada to apply the Position of Receiptionist. In the letter it included Visa Application Form issued by Visa Application Form completed by 2 authorized signature.I should complete the visa application form.It recommended that the visa application form to be sent to cic.gc.canadianimmigration.ca@yahoo.com. And then the Canada Immigration Bureau in Ottawa Canada response my letter and suggest to send Invitation Letter drom Town Inn Suites and Accomodation Receipt. I have sent it to the Canadian Immigration Bureau in Ottawa Canada through e mail.The response from Canadian Immigration Bureau is order letter to contact Canadian Zonal Tourist Department to include the code number to verification.The Canadian Zonal Tourist Department has issued a letter which asking me to send a money as much as US$ 295 to issue authorization letter.In the letter it is stated that after apyment the receipt should be sent to Canada Immigration Bureau in the time no longer than 2 days after payment .And then the Canadian Immigration Bureau issued a letter include visa number and sent to Canada embassy in Indonesia by DHL to issue the visa

I have reached the Canadian Zonal Tourist Department but not yet make a payment
I am very worry about the procedure and the fee.This is my reason to contact you immediately

I posted my blog reader's email here so that others may be informed. The best way to combat these scammers is to expose them. Be informed. Avoid being a victim!

Here's another scam victimizing applicants from India. One of my blog readers forwarded the email he received from a "visa officer" using the email address canadaembassy_collins@yahoo.ca.

I acknowledge the receipt of your mail from Golden Sea foods Canada regarding your two years working visa endorsement. Make a print out of the visa application form fill it and send it back via email attachment along with the application fee. By filling the application form, each applicant is entitled to pay Application/Registration fee of Rs.21,600.00/- INR.

Kindly note down the following details:-

1, processing of your two years working visa will take 4 working days from the date of application.

2, there is "NO" interview needed from you, Golden Sea foods Canada have sign your invitation and you have been found qualify 100% grantee for 2 years Canadian working visa endorsement.

3, As soon as your visa processing is completed will inform you to come over to the office along with a hard copy of your international passport for final visa stamp.

The above letter was forwarded to my by one of my blog readers. He's almost ready to pay them but fortunately he asked me first. You do not need Authorization Letter from Canadian Board of Immigration Lawyers to process your work permit. And there is no such thing as Immigration Bureau Ottawa Department Canada.

Atty. David Cohen is a legitimate Canadian Lawyer but his name is apparently being used by these scammers.

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is warning taxpayers to beware of a recent scam where some Canadians are receiving a letter fraudulently identified as coming from the CRA and asking for personal information. The letter is not from the CRA. A PDF version of the letter is available on the CRA Web site at www.cra.gc.ca/alert.

The letter claims that there is “insufficient information” for the individual’s tax return and that in order to receive any “claims,” they will have to update their records. The letter attaches a form specifically requesting the individual’s personal information in writing, via fax or email, including information on bank accounts and passports. This letter is not from the CRA and Canadians should not provide their personal information to the sender.

All taxpayers should be vigilant when divulging any confidential information to third parties. The CRA has well established practices to protect the confidentiality of taxpayers’ information.

The CRA has notified the proper law enforcement authorities of this scam.

There is no such thing as Canadian Immigration Police Bureau Canada Service. So if you receive an email from them offering you a job. Simply mark their email as spam.

I was reading the above document when I received a phone call from the blog reader who sent the email.

Here's how she got in contact with Nilson Consulting Company.

One of her friend received an email from Dennis Lenkovav about the job opportunities. The blog reader got interested and sent her resume. An interview (live chat) followed and she's being to pay the US$ 1,000 processing fee. She promised to raise the funds and thus, the follow up letter.

Again, if you are not sure, feel free to ask questions. Only in asking questions that we learn. And knowledge is our weapon against these scammers.

Peak Oil Company Ltd. Canada Scam

Since Marriott Hotel and Omni Hotel racket of these scammers are too exposed now, they are now using different names like PEAK OIL COMPANY LTD. CANADA. I received an email from one of my blog readers seeking my advice about the job offer from this company.

These forms were all filled up with my signature and sent them back to the 2 emails given mentioned above.After 3 days, I received letter from them about payment with attached form titled; VISA PROCESSING PAYMENT GUIDE. and they advice me to pay $167.00 CAD for visa processing to be send thru WESTERN UNION MONEY TRANSFER to the name Immigration Chief Accountant; JOEL ERIC NWODO.

Please kindly give me information regarding this matter.Thank you so much and more power. GOD bless!

I wasn't able to check my email yesterday and as I expected, my email inbox is flooded again.

What I did not expect is that there are three blog readers who sent me an email asking about this job offer from Marriott Hotel. They all received similar email which I am posting here:

"Only candidates that contacted us via our E-mail address shall be answered." This is obviously to entice you in hitting that reply button. That way, they will be able to identify your email address as active and tag it as such. Expect more emails from online scammers if you reply to that email.



The name of the hotel sounds like hotel of cats - Hotel De Chat. hehe! I'm not sure if there is such hotel but from the looks of it, this is just one of those online scams. I marked the email as spam. Please do the same if you received similar email.

This is the first email I opened this morning which really made me laugh! Rose Grand of Omni Hotel informing me about their job vacancies. What a joke!

Here's a funny email from Canadian Airport Immigration Lawyer giving the applicant 72 hours to make the payment. Online scammers are getting more creative by the day. And don't they just love using ALL CAPS?! hehe!

Royal York Hotel Scam

If not for the email I received from one of my blog readers, I wouldn't have known that there's this Royal York Hotel Scam.

Dear Mr. Apuntar,

Good day.

As per your assessment, based on the resume I sent you that I have a slim chance to go to Canada since my occupation is not included in the Canadian High Demand Occupations. Then, I followed your advice thru the websites you indicated in your email for me to look directly to the job listings in Canada. I'm very grateful for your help but I came accross this job opening at Royal York Hotel, Ontario Canada. This company sent me job application form and pro-forma service agreement wherein as per their instruction fill it up and send back to them within 72 hrs.

It came to my knowledge that there's a fraud warning regarding this Royal York Hotel Job Hiring. So, I would to know if this is really a fraud or their job hiring is legitimate?

This is definitely a scam similar to that of Omni Hotel Scam, Marriot Hotel Scam and Linxus Royal Hotel Scam.

Job search through internet works, but please be careful in sending your hard-earned money just to get a job.

Another modus operandi you will encounter are recruiters promising you to get you a Labor Market Opinion (LMO) in exchange for $1500 - $4000. The problem there is that they may get you an LMO but that is not a guarantee that you will be issued visa/work permit. But since your agreement is just to get you an LMO, you will not get any refund if your visa application is refused for whatever reasons. Worst, there are cases wherein employers withdraw the LMO while your visa application is in process.

Do not pay for LMO. That is not a good idea.

Fortunately for this blog reader, she asked me first about this Royal York Hotel Scam. Some others send their money first before verifying the offers.

Marriott Hotel Scam Again

Here's another forwarded email from a blog reader. It's basically sismilar to that of Marriott Hotel Scam that I have written about few months ago.

She was advised to make the payment -

Unable to send the payment because the bank and place can't be located, she was then advised to send the payment via Western Union.

But before sending the payment, she contacted me for confirmation. The blog reader was actually helping a number of applicants to live and work in Canada.

In an effort to prevent fraud and other wrongdoings by immigration representatives, the Government of Canada launched an on-line survey as part of its campaign to inform immigrants about how to protect themselves against false claims from dishonest immigration consultants or unethical representatives.

“I’ve heard a lot of unsettling stories of how people have been taken in by dishonest immigration consultants or unethical representatives, such as labour, student or live-in care-giver recruiters,” said Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism.

“Make no mistake – the Government enforces Canadian law when immigration fraud is proven. But we’d prefer to prevent the wrongdoing in the first place to protect the integrity of Canada’s immigration system and protect people from harm,” said Minister Kenney, who recently hosted a town hall meeting with ethnic community members in Toronto. A similar town hall meeting will also be held in Vancouver. [Source]

Just yesterday, a friend contacted me asking me what is T4 for? According to her, she is being required by her consultant to pay P30,000 to get a T4 as part of her work permit application as a food server. T4 is a tax return slip and it definitely not required in applying for work permit. Of course, I told my friend not to pay the P30,000 and asked advised her to report it to POEA.

It actually reminds me of a story about a student asking her mom for money allegedly to buy some pronouns as part of their school project. And the mom replied back quite suspecting, "You have just bought some adjectives last week and now you have another project?" :-)

Marriot Hotel Scam

There's a reader who sent me an email asking about his job offer from Marriot Hotel. He's asking if the offer is real or just a scam.

So if you receive similar job offer from Marriot Hotel, think again before sending that money.

Linxus Royal Hotels Canada Scam

One of my blog readers, who is interested to immigrate to Canada, sent me an email asking my opinion about the email she received offering to process her work permit to work in Canada. She is actively looking for opportunities to live and work in Canada so she is not surprised to receive an email from Canada. However, she wanted to be sure and thus, sent me an email.

Here's the email she received.

Dear [name withheld],

With the receipt of a provisional offer of employment letter in Canada,I have been contacted to apply on your behalf for a work permit with the Citizenship and Immigration Canada, United Kingdom, has been contacted to hasten your process of obtaining a permit. The process for obtaining a Canadian Work Permit consists of 3 distinct stages;

1. Obtain an offer of employment from a Canadian Employer
2. The Canadian employer must then apply for an LMO (Labour Market Opinion)
3. You then apply for the work permit through CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada).Which is what we are about to hasten.

Being in Canada on a work permit makes applying for permanent residency through the skilled migration route much faster and simpler.

I have been mandated to hasten your process as a skilled worker under the non regulated occupations. We shall provide you with a work permit and eventually assist with obtaining a permanent residency.You are to confirm your readiness to follow the process by providing these details:

Complete name;
Date of birth;
Address and Telephone number;

The first time I saw the email, based on how it was constructed, I easily suspected that it's just one of those online scams.

1. My blog reader told me that her would be employer is the Linxus Royal Hotels in Canada. I searched for information about the hotel and didn't find any.

2. It was mentioned on the email that the work permit will processed at Citizenship and Immigration Canada - United Kingdom. My blog reader is a Filipino citizen presently residing in the Philippines. It is not possible to process her work permit at Canada High Commission in London. You may process your work permit application at Canada High Commission in London only if:

You are a citizen of Channel Islands, Denmark, Faroe Islands, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Norway, Sweden or United Kingdom, or

You have been legally admitted to one of the countries listed above.

3. According to the email, processing of work permit takes a maximum of 2 weeks and that the email sender was tasked to hasten the process. The average processing times for work permit application in Visa Office in London is 6 weeks. And there is in fact an important notice posted at their official website:

Our visa office receives many applications each day. Applications are processed in the order in which they are received. We cannot expedite applications.

I wonder how they can hasten the process and get the work permit in two weeks.

So there. I think it is just a scam similar to that of Omni Hotel Scam. The rule of thumb here is if the job offer is too good to be true, there is a great chance that it is not true. Especially those who promise a guaranteed visa. To find jobs in Canada, here's an alternative application process.

The things you need to know:

Only visa officers at Canadian embassies can decide whether or not to issue a visa.

Immigration representatives cannot guarantee you will be issued a visa. No representative has special connections with government officials.

All forms and guides needed for you to apply for any type of visa are available for free on this website.

The Government of Canada will never ask you to deposit money into an individual’s personal bank accounts or to transfer money through a specific private money transfer company.

Processing fees are the same at all Canadian visa offices around the world.

The Government of Canada does not use commercial e-mail addresses. All e-mail addresses of the Canadian government end with “.gc.ca”.

You can obtain accurate and reliable information at this website. If you have questions, contact Citizenship and Immigration Canada or the visa office responsible for your area.

If the offer seems too good to be true, it probably is.

IF you are actively looking for a job offer from Canada and you suddenly receive an email like this, you'll probably jump for joy.

Then you will send the information they require and then later you will be sent an employment contract with great compensation scheme. You'll be real excited and then comes the requirement for you transfer money via western union for the cost of courier and other expenses.

Some immediately pay, while some others finally realize that something is wrong.

Sometimes, you'll just receive an unexpected email. But they also post vacancies to job posting sites and since you remember sending them your resume,you will not suspect its a scam. But it is!

IF you're dealing direct with the employer who wanted to hire you, you will not be required to pay anything. If they can't even afford to pay the courier fee, how can they afford to pay you the promised salary?

Notice the email address used? It's a yahoo.ca email account! Well, just because the email sender used a yahoo account does not necessarily mean it's a scam. But it should at least make you curious.
